Anyone know of any local restaruants that routinely (or even seasonally? when?) serve pompano?
We had grilled Pompano Pontchartrain (crabmeat sauce topping) at Antoine's in New Orlean's a couple of weeks ago and my wife loved it. (and she is not a big fish eater). _________________ Cheers, Pete

As good as pompano is, I think you could make an old shoe taste good with that crabmeat topping. I have had that dish before at Antoine's and it is really good.

Pete,
I have not seen this dish or any Pompano dish served anywhere in a very long time. I have seen it at Harbor Docks in Destin a few times but none in the last couple of years.
I don't know if you like to cook but you can easily do this yourself. Or a close but equally good version. Go to Joe Patti's and get yourself several fillets. During April-July they have fresh, local Pompano. Catching them yourself is even better. Take your fillets and drizzle with olive oil, fresh cracked pepper and a tad of salt. Put under broiler until almost done...maybe 3 minutes prior to being done.
While this is broiling, in a saute pan, put some real butter, a good squeeze of lemon, a tad of lemon zest, a vey small clove of garlic(minced), a palm full of chopped green onions as well as parsley and a palm size portion of shaved almonds. Saute this for a few minutes. Add some lump crabmeat and saute for a few more minutes. Then....take your fillets and drizzle this sauce over them and back under the broiler. If you want, you can sprinkle with some freshly grated parmesan cheese but lightly! Drizzle with more lemon and enjoy!
Dadgummit....now I want it! |

P'Kid ... sounds like you know your way around a kitchen and grill pretty darn well! When are you going to open a restaurant on NB????
