Just a side note to new comers to Navarre Beach:
There are these little white fish that seem to be nibbling at your toes. Do not be scared. They just want the stuff you are kicking up. They will not bite you. You can see them and feel them but it is more like them bumping into your feet. If you are calm, you will find that you purposely kick up the sand to give them some more. |

Those little white fish are whiting fingerlings (babies, fry) and as you point out they are more fun than a neusance as they forage for the food you might disturb in the sand.
Another found may be baby pompano which will have some yellow and darker grey coloring and a flat shape to thier body rather than elongated like the whiting They will forage around your toes but may also nibble at the hair on the legs on the men and children. Again, they will not bite, but a little tug on a hair might get your attention on occasion.
Wait till they grow up, catch and eat them back, not revenge, just some of the best eating there is in the Gulf. _________________ David

I usually just shave the legs before putting on the swim suit.
I never knew they had fish that nipped at your leg hairs. Interesting. |

Like most ladies!! That's why I said "men and children".
Some of the things that the small fry eat are itty bitty wormy things. I suppose that a hair flowing in the water looks like a live itty bitty wormy thing.
We used to have fresh water fry do the same thing while swiming in fresh water ponds. May be why a fish will hit a bare hook on occasion, looks like a little worm. _________________ David
