Navarre's underwater reef camera is a first for the Gulf

http://www.pnj.com/story/news/2016/12/0 ... /95039846/

The Navarre Beach Marine Science Station is installing the first Gulf of Mexico underwater webcam at the snorkel artificial reefs located at the last pavilion in the Navarre Beach Marine Park. I will be providing a live feed of this new underwater webcam on my website NavarreBeachLife.com within a few days. Is this great or what?

It is very cool.

I remember it was announced a couple of weeks ago and I went looking for it. The main video feed isn't online yet, is it? Either that or it's on but they haven't put links on the two other web sites that are supposed to have the camera on them.

I'm looking forward to seeing this.

Navarre Beach Marine Science Underwater Reef Camera Deployment

The Underwater Reef Camera has to be tested thoroughly before it goes Live on my NBL website and the Navarre Beach Marine Science Station website. And I have to change my website to accommodate the Live viewing. Hopefully, by next weekend the Underwater Reef Camera will be ready to Rock-N-Roll 0n the internet for viewing.

Tomorrow I plan to write the descriptive text and figure the best layout of the (3) Cams. The lineup will be as follows:

Navarre Beach Live HD 1080 Zoom Cam
Navarre Beach Marine Science Reef Live Underwater Cam
Navarre Beach Live Skyline Cam

Friday we discussed the possibility of adding another Cam in the area at the reef, but just above the top water line.

Amazing! Thanks for posting this. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has wondered how the salt water will effect that equipment. Any idea how impervious it is to salt water?

The cable for the power and internet circuit is insulated with 1/2 inch diameter marine grade flexible material wrapped in very heavy marine grade stainless steel chain that will resist saltwater. The 300 pound concrete platform on the ocean floor that secures the Camera has embedded marine grade stainless steel bolts that connect to the Cameras marine grade stainless steel connections that will resist saltwater. The Camera outside lens globe/cover is water proof and has auto wipers to remove barnacles and other potential marine growth. However, a diver will still need to provide manual cleaning once a month.

This is a very expensive high tech Camera designed for underwater saltwater and freshwater use. The manufacturer of the camera is AXIS, the very best Web Camera in the world. My Navarre Beach Live HD 1080 DVR Camera is an AXIS Camera.

This will be the first underwater Camera on the Florida Gulf Coast. Another first for Navarre Beach! The Camera is undergoing normal testing and should be viewable on the NavarreBeachLife.com website in a few days.

Really cool to watch the deployment! Reminds me of my diving days in Guam (35+years ago).

Curious as to any reason they did the concrete platform and cable/chain deployment at sunset/night?
Just the time they had available? - or did someone need to log a night dive for certification/training?

Looking forward to it coming online!

Yes, the marine reef cam has experienced some problems and the latest is with the lens cover wipers. Divers from the Special Operations from Hulbert Field have volunteered to disconnect the cam and bring it ashore to work on it. So far during the past few weeks the cam has been viewed only from YouTube.

I will not provide a live feed of the marine reef cam until everything is ok. Also, the board of directors seem to think that I should have to pay for a live feed of the streaming video. I have offered to give the organization a free ad on my website that I sell for $250.00 per month. Once my offer is approved I will let you folks know.

There are other things that I am aware of concerning the quality of the streaming video resolution, but I am not willing to divulge that information at this time. I should be able to help the organization with a good resolution if they ask for it.

Several of my professional photographer friends, one in Europe in particular who owns and maintains underwater photography set ups for divers and on oil rigs in the North Sea and another who is deeply into film (he has a collection of half a dozen Nikonos cameras) for a living, saw the YT videos and were jumping all over me on IM when they saw how they were actually assembling stuff underwater.

This specific 'technology' (underwater webcams) is not my personal area of expertise so I'm not going to post more detail but I have to say there were some not very complimentary technical comments involved. Maybe its just one company "bashing" another but this new webcam does seem to be beset with one problem after another, doesn't it?

Maybe they should ask you to be a Project Manager for it and not seek to charge you anything, but actually pay you to fix it all? 8)
