Hotel work underway...

Photos and Discussion of the old Navarre Beach Holiday Inn Hotel, and planned construction of another Hotel planned for the existing site destroyed by Hurricane Ivan on September 2004 and Hurricane Dennis on 2005. Info about the 1978 movie Jaws 2, which much of the film was filmed at Navarre Beach in the 1970’s. The actors and crew used the old Holiday Inn as their headquarters.

They are working on it!

I stood on the walk over at Sugar Beach/Beachview and smiled for Kenny's zoom camera long enough for it to have picked me up this morning.

This is a cell phone picture I also took from there of the hotel construction underway. I saw two caterpillar machines moving sand about and about a dozen people all looking very seriously at plans.

Anyway, you can sure smell the diesel fumes from where I stood. but it gets less intense when you get onto the beach.

You can see the Bel Mer on the left and the end of the Beachview condos on the right if anyone needs to know where this is.

Great pic! Yes I was trying to picture where the condo is and that is the one I was thinking about.

Can't say I am excited in the least about really any of the hotel stuff. I suppose some might see it as good that there is a hotel on the beach although I would have been perfectly content to let that land just stay land. To me, it is another overpriced concrete building obstructing my view whilest driving.

Today at the hotel site as we were driving past it! There are huge piles of building materials to the left of this picture.

Thanks for the progress update, Brian! 8) There's a lot that goes into building any building before the walls and roof go up ... especially when building on shifting sand! Hmmm --- there's a scripture lesson in there somewhere! ;)

It looks more like a building site right now. A large pile of dark sand (from deep down?) on one side of the site, several heavy machines working and a number of piles of materials that look like they will be used to form foundations... still too soon to see clearly...

From the back parking lot of the Beachview Apartments this morning looking towards Bel Mer etc, of the work underway. As you can see, there are people really there and machines being used.

They are building some sort of structure there as you can see, not sure from what I have seen so far if that is a corner of the main building or some other free standing storage kind of building in a corner of the lot.
