Yep, I guess there really is no cure for "stupid"!! :?

Conditions are deteriorating noticeably just by comparing the last print screen in my above post from this morning of the North Jetty at Sebastian Beach with this new one:

Me, too, Redchaz57. We lived in the Ormond/Daytona area for 7 years and have some dear friends there. Our first storm preparedness experience was for Hugo and I was working for a large property insurer so our office was "on call" to set up temporary offices for the post-hurricane claim period!

Well, as I suspected a lot of the webcams in the Daytona area (including the Volusia County cams) have been taken offline due to high volume and/or power problems but I found this one still going strong. This is a shot just a few minutes ago around 5 pm ET:

This is of New Smyrna Beach located just a bit south of Daytona Shores. This is ordinarily a very large, flat beach with a lot of area between the picnic, parking and retail area to the water. The retail area cannot be seen in this shot:

This picture shows a lot. New Smyrna has a very large beach which you can't see now. When's high tide?

Sadly, lives were lost and H. Matthew's aftermath on the Atlantic coast will be costly and time-consuming ~ here is a slideshow from around the Jacksonville, FL area:

I do not know the circumstances surrounding the 35+ deaths in the USA but I can tell you this because I watched and followed this hurricane for days. Every single city official, every Governor of every state effected, repeatedly, said ......GET OUT. Over and over and over again. They even provided the information needed to get people out who may have had difficulty getting out. They opened up both sides of freeways. I see very little excuse for the loss of life unless they simply balked at the warnings.

For Haiti....completely different and much sadder story. Horrific!
