I have been very blessed this year. Both of my daughters became pregnant. These two baby girls are to join my other granddaughter in my heart.

Last month, Annabelle was born. She struggled at first but when she was 8 days old, she had recovered from a difficult birth and was sent home. Today, she is visiting me. She is a thing of beauty. I have no doubt all the prayers are what carried her through her tough start.

This morning (CST) my third granddaughter was born in Japan. It took me by surprise because she is not due for another month. Her name is Erin. This evening, I have been told that she is having some complications. My son-in-law and Erin have been moved to a better hospital in Toyko. My daughter continues to recover at a local military base.

Please say a prayer or two for little Erin, also please keep her parents in mind. I know this will work out, just as it did for Annabelle.

My overnight update from my daughter.

___________________________________________________
Hey guys. I went into labor prematurely @ 36 weeks, Which is ok in US standards but she did not do fine at first. My mentality was "People w/ twins go into labor now and BOTH babies are fine." David came home on Tuesday oct 26th in the afternoon sometime. The next day I was super excited b/c he would get to go to a doc appointment with me and help me get ready for the following wk in which the doctors wanted me to move over to Yokuska to keep an eye on me. I woke up and we headed to the doc and he kept asking if I was fine. Well, as some of you guys know I have issues breathing sometimes lately and the doctors told me it was b/c she was in my lungs. So I said I was fine. Went to the doctors appointment she checked me and asked if my contractions were every 5 mins apart......well like I would count I have a little under 4 weeks left! She told me to go walk around for a couple hours and go up to L&D to get checked to see if I was progressing. We were out a little over and hour and I look at David and tell him that I needed to go to the hospital. So long story short-they checked me in b/c I was progressing quickly.

So I fell in LOVE with my main drug man. Prob was though-it drugs worked GREAT with the contractions but not at all...well yeah. It was quick, pain intense, and easy w/ no issues with me. Yet we were having some pretty bad moments with the baby. Erin was born on October 27th @ 8:12pm weighing 6 lbs 8 oz (good size), but they are calling her a preemie b/c she is not a 37 week old baby. Do not ask me how long she was b/c I was never given this information or did I ever get to see her. She wasn't breathing like she should. They put her on O2 at 100% (we take in 20% oxygen) but they could not ween her off without her O2 stats dropping in the 60s (needing to be 95 or above). Well I wasn't worried b/c they said preemies lungs are not fully developed sometimes at 36 weeks. Well they waited till this morning to tell us that they have to rush her to a NICU in Japan b/c is was not doing well and they did they best they could do. David went with them accompanied by a Japanese intern here on base for translations. I heard from him 4 hours later saying that her heart is not swollen like the docs x-rayed showed at the hospital (she went to a infant cardio specialist to receive an echo) but they think it is an infection. WHICH made me SO happy. David just got back 3 hours after this update to tell me they knocked her into a drug induced comma b/c she has a feeding tube down her nose and a O2 tube going straight into her lungs. BUT they think she had a hypertension thingy. I forgot the words. But pretty much when she came out she didn't get that BIG breathe that they are suppose to take to expand their lungs. So they did something to her to expand her lungs and now she is at 60% oxygen :). They are waiting for her test results to see if she has infection but she is now breathing in one motion instead of struggling. They informed David that it did NOT look good for her when they brought her in. But something worked and now she is better. HELL i don't care what they did at all. But Japanese Hospitals consider full term 40 weeks so worse case scenario they will have her till her due date Nov 18th. I DO NOT CARE! KEEP HER but my baby is alive and i am SUPERRRRRRR excited.

So that is the GRAND update! I am being discharged early so I can go see my baby out in town. Japanese have very strict visitation guidelines. 1-8pm and no one under 14. I do not care, I love Japanese doctors right now. If it wasn't rude to hug these people I would jump on the doc to give him a BIG hug. I will be in Yokuska for another week. But the hospital she is at is only 10 mins away from here. Have a nice weekend guys!!!!!

Yes AG, It has been a very stressful week. With the verdict and sentence recommendation in, some of the stress has been released.

Communication with Alicia is difficult. She is not at home and she did not have a cell phone (Japanese service). Wireless internet is not widely available.

I was able to Skype her this morning (I LOVE Skype).

Erin's O2 has been reduced to 35%. Her lungs just weren't developed enough yet. They still have her in a drug induced coma to prevent her from pulling out her tubes and IVs. It will also allow her to be more comfortable. There was a typoon yesterday and they would not allow anyone to leave the base, so they did not get to see her. They hope to see her tomorrow afternoon (middle of the night here). The update from the hospital today was that she was doing good and is stable.

I got to talk to and see everyone and they were in good spirits. I am truely relieved today. I am pretty sure my blood pressure was boiling all week long, it should go down this weekend.

Thanks for all the prayers. We have needed them this week. Please continue to keep Erin in your prayers this week.

BG - Erin is in our prayers, as is her family.

We're very happy about the verdict and the recommendation of the death penalty.
May your troubles be less, and your blessings be more, and nothing but happiness come through your door.

I haven't given an update in a few days.

Erin is now breathing on her own. She is kept in an incubator that has oxygen going into it but the breathing tube was removed. They are now trying to get her used to a bottle. Once she takes in enough from it, they will remove her feeding tube. She is now awake. She knew her mothers voice and responded to it. Complaining mostly. She wasn't as aware of her father's voice. He had been on a carrier until he was called onshore. She still hasn't met her sister and her sister is waiting as patiently as a 4 year old can.

The family is hanging strong during this time and their spirits are high. They appreciate everyone that has been keeping them in their thoughts and prayers. I do too.

Update: Last night, they discharged Erin from the hospital. They are having her and my daughter stay at a "nesting house" that is next to the hospital. The base my daughter lives at is 2 hours from the hospital and they didn't want her that far for her first few nights away from the hospital. She is hoping to go completely home over the weekend.

All the doctors and nurses (and our family of course) are sure that the prayers received for Erin helped her. When she was first born and transferred to Toyko, they had been preparing my daughter for Erin's death. With the skill of the doctors in Tokyo and prayers from around the world, she grew stronger and got better. So, on the day she was offically two weeks old, she was discharged from the hospital. There is no other way than to say she has been a miracle.

Thanks to all!

This is great news about your Granddaughter!

I was my Mother’s first child and at birth I was premature (my wife thinks I still am) and weighed less than 5 lbs. I was in critical condition while being in an incubator for about 3 weeks. And now you know the rest of the story.

Again, this is great news about your Granddaughter. A blessing indeed! Now it’s time to figure out a strategy of spoiling her and I’m sure that time is just right around the corner.
