Here’s something to place on your new 2013 calendar.
Gulf Islands National Seashore has announced its popular “A Candlelight Tour of Fort Pickens” on the Saturdays of Jan. 12 and Feb. 9.
Tours will begin every 15 minutes between 5 to 7:15 p.m. and are free to the public.
Interpreters in period costumes will present the history of Pensacola during the Civil War during the hour-long tours.
Each tour will be limited to groups of 30 and will depart from the Fort Pickens Visitor Center.
Park officials said even though the fort will be lighted with candles, flashlights are allowed. And they advise visitors to dress appropriately for the evening weather and wear comfortable walking shoes. Since parking is limited, park officials advise car-pooling if possible.
Visitors must call (850) 934-2635 for tour reservations and arrive 20 minutes before their assigned tour time.
For a complete program schedule and more information, call 934-2600, or visit www.nps.gov/guis, or follow seashore news on Twitter@gulfislandsnps.
Navarre Beach Fun Fest, Mardi Gras, Beaches to Rivers, and Navarre Beach Arts Festival. Surrounding area has many special events including the Blue Angels’ air shows in July and November and the Pensacola Power of Photography Show.
