Oregon's big win prompts an Alabama drop in Associated Press top 25

Image

Alabama did everything it needed to do in its never-close rout of Florida Atlantic, but it wasn't enough to keep it ranked No. 2 in the latest Associated Press top 25.

Oregon hopped the Crimson Tide for the No. 2 spot after its victory over No. 7 Michigan State. The Ducks received 16 first-place votes, second only to No. 1 Florida State. Alabama received one.

Oklahoma and Auburn round out the top five.

Though it doesn't happen often, this sort of drop is nothing new for Alabama. The Crimson Tide yo-yoed a couple of times with LSU during the early parts of 2011. Oregon was involved when it happened, too, as the Tigers hopped Alabama after beating the Ducks in Week 1.

Five SEC teams landed in the top 10 and eight in the top 25. Three others received votes.

Alabama maintained its No. 2 ranking in the coaches' poll.

1. Florida State (38)

2. Oregon (16)

Yes...thanks Kenny.

In my opinion, another relatively weak weekend for the SEC. Bama will destroy Southern Miss and Texas A&M will utterly annihilate Rice.

Tennessee vs. Oklahoma....WOW, that will tell some tales.
Arkansas vs. Texas Tech....that should be a decent game
Georgia vs. South Carolina.....you just never know which SC team will show up. Georgia by 21.

Well my Hogs broke their losing skid so I am happy. Most likely a good high school team would have been better competition but a win is a win and they were needing one really bad. Now moving on to Texas Tech and renewing an old SWC rivalry. Not sure how this game will go. On paper I do believe the Razorbacks have better talent and strength but their biggest weakness is the back seven on defense and Tech throws the ball all over the field. The Hogs need to get out of the gate fast and limit their mistakes. The "experts" have Tech favored to win but I do believe the Hogs will go down and get their second win of the season. They better. This game is one I have them winning to get to 6-6 and go bowling. Lose this one and my Hogs will sit at home bowl season. Go Hogs.

I believe the Hogs will take it and win by 6. TT was not that impressive with UTEP.

Somehow Iowa survived and beat Ball State. How we are 2-0 is beyond me! Next up is the Iowa State Cyclones, who are 0-2, but put up a great battle in their loss to K-State on Saturday. Iowa needs to get it together to move to 3-0. They need to get the wins now, because despite some whippings the Big 10 took this past weekend, the conference is very tought, and deep. We will do well to finish above .500. Go Hawks!

The Mean Green vs. La Tech this week could prove to be an outstanding college football game. Can they compete with the likes of the nation's top 10. I think this game will be fun, exciting and bring some attention to both schools. National TV to boot.

Oklahoma I Know You Are Favored, But Watch Out For Tennessee

Could Tennessee be the sleeping giant in the SEC East Division? Maybe we will find out Saturday.

I would never root for a team outside of the SEC, other than a couple of exceptions. This TN vs. OK game is no exception. I am for the Vols all the way. However, I have picked Oklahoma to be one of the top 4 teams at the end of the year.

I hate to say it but I believe they picked up right where they left off last year and we all remember that game, don't we!! UUUUUgly! For the SEC that is.

I'm watching on CBS Sports an interesting college football game between Louisiana Tech and North Texas. End of the 1st quarter no team has scored. Good defense with both teams.

Hey lvthbch has to be happy, the mighty Bulldogs of La Tech handled the Mean Green of U of North Texas last night. Ahhh, there are some happy, happy, happy Rustononians/Rustonites today (including Phil Duck Dynasty Robertson) and at least one very unhappy Mean Greener....aka, Brian.
