So last night, at least here in Texas, High School football kicked off...no pun intended. High School football is so big now that certain state's perennial powerhouses schedule first or second games with other state's perennial powerhouses. That did not happen when I played back in the late 70's. Last night was no exception and neither will tonight. More on tonight's game momentarily.
Last night, famed Alabama High School, Hoover Buccaneer's out of Birmingham, AL (which the Pensacolakid would have attended had I stayed in Birmingham vs. moving to Texas) came to Texas to play 6A Powerhouse, Allen High School. Allen is a suburb of the Dallas area and has an enormous athletic budget. Perhaps larger than any high school in America. There are a lot of ex-Dallas Cowboy's kids on this team and that should tell you something. Anyway, Google Image the Allen High School football stadium and that will tell you everything you need to know. It is bigger and grander than many Div 1 college teams. Anyway, Allen has won the last several years, top classification of high school football (6A here in Texas).
Let's just say that the once mighty Hoover Buccaneer's got "schooled" in football last night.
Tonight, Cedar Hill High School, another perennial Texas program (very far southern suburb of Dallas) hosts Bishop-Gorman, a really really good football team from Nevada. In fact, last year, BG finished the year as the USA Today and ESPN top high school football program. It will be a very interesting match up tonight on either ESPN or ESPN2. Go Cedar Hill!
ALL SPORTS: College Football, College Basketball, NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, NASCAR and other sports.

Looks like Cedar Hill (out of the Dallas area got schooled by the defending National Champions, Bishop Gorman out of Vegas). What can one expect though when this school actually recruits and is known as a ESPN Top 300 incubator. They have 2nd string players who are Top 300. Quite unfair but no one really seems to care and apparently there are no rules against it.
