What is the state of our beach? Is it eroding? Or, is it in a natural cycle of waxing and waning?
As of today, there is less than 40 feet of beach in front of Navarre Towers. Hopefully this is temporary.
Beach erosion, or a natural cycle?

Very tough to fight what nature wants to do (and an expensive - and probably loosing - battle?). Much more powerful than mankind. Barrier islands "move" - that is what they do. While now too late - probably should have never encouraged/allowed "permanent" buildings on such a low/narrow island? At least not beachfront?
Cheers, Pete

Anyone who hears my words but does not put them into practice is like the foolish man who built his house on sandy ground. The rains fell, the torrents came, the winds blew and lashed against his house. It collapsed under all this and was completely ruined. Matt 7, 26-27.

From the web cam it looks like there's about 10 to 15 feet of beach left in front of the Navarre Towers walkover. Am I the only one concerned about this?
When we went through the last beach rebuild we were told that we wouldn't have to pay for future rebuilds because it would be a "man made beach", and FEMA would rebuild it at their expense. Now we're told that that's not right, and FEMA only replaces the amount taken by a storm. Well, that's the minor part. It's the day to day erosion that's the significant part. Hurricane season will be here in 3 months.

I decided to take a walk down to the Navarre Towers area this morning and got there just after high tide between 11 and 11:30 AM.
Below is a photo of the western of two walkovers at the Towers. I placed a 5 ft long lounge chair against the base of the walkover and a pair of sandles at the very edge of what I would estimate to be a 6 1/2 to 7 foot drop off to the surf. I think 15 feet from the walkover to the drop off is pretty accurate.

Much worse yet is the erosion at the condo complex just west of the Emerald Surf. I don't know the name but it is pictured below. It is located directly across from the old Tom Thumb west.

On the photo above, I place a broken sand dollar at the very edge of where the beach drops off about 7 feet. I would guess it is 2 1/2 feet from the base of the walkover to the drop off.
Photos below are taken from water's edge at eye level.
